Frequently asked questions

  • What kind of training will I get?

We will to support you to be a confident and able member of our team and to keep learning and developing your skills throughout your employment. Everyone at Thistle takes part in our induction training within their first few weeks of joining us and our 4 day course, ‘Life is for Living’ within six months. We also run our own courses, enhancing learning in person-centred practice, developing leadership skills and we support all personal assistants to achieve their SVQ Level 3 accreditation

  • What’s it like working as a Personal Assistant at Thistle?

Working as a Personal Assistant means flexible hours, superb training and the chance to make a real difference to someone’s life – just take a look at Alan and Steve’s story.

  • Do I need previous work experience in health and social care?

Experience is good, but not essential. It’s more important that you share our ethos and values. You’ll have the opportunity to take part in training to improve your skills and build confidence; we’ll also support you to gain qualifications, such as SVQ Level 3 accreditation.

  • How does the recruitment process work for personal assistants?

If you are invited to an interview then you’ll initially meet with members of our supported living team. If this goes well then we’ll invite you back for a second interview, where we’ll introduce you to the person you may support and/or their friends or family members. It’s important to us that the people we support are involved in the recruitment process – they have the final say on whether you’ll work with them.
