James' Tribute to Nik

On our National Day of Reflection, we're remembering all those who have sadly passed away this year, whatever the cause. James, a person we support, wanted to share his moving and uplifting tribute to Nik who supported him and was his friend.

"I first got to know Nik as my support worker about 7 or 8 years ago. We immediately got on well.

"He told me the things he liked, such as classical music and cooking. He was a fan of cartoons too. I remember going to the opera with him, and we cooked lots of Greek dishes together like moussaka and octopus in red wine. After cooking, we watched movies and cartoons. His favourite was Tom and Jerry.

"We went on lots of outings in Edinburgh and around about. We once had a barbecue on Portobello Beach. Every year we went to the panto in Glasgow with my auntie. Here is a picture I took on our last outing together to the Edinburgh Zoo Christmas lights.

"It was very special to go to Greece on holiday with Nik in November 2019 and to meet his friends and learn about the country. Looking at the Acropolis from the balcony of the accommodation is a golden memory.

"He was a good friend, and he and I tried to bring out the Mediterranean lifestyle together."
