Supporter Information

23rd March 2020

To our friends and supporters,

The coronavirus is having a significant impact on the way we’re all living our lives today and we very much hope that you and your loved ones are staying well in these challenging and uncertain times.

Usually, our spring communication focuses on inspirational stories of people who, thanks to your generous support, have transformed their lives after the devastating diagnosis of a long-term condition. This time, we thought you would also want to hear how your support is helping Thistle to keep support going for some of the most vulnerable people in our community during these unprecedented times.

Your support means we can continue our vital work.
Last week, we closed our Centre of Wellbeing to the public in support of Government advice that people need to take ‘social distancing’ measures to help protect themselves and others from coronavirus. The Centre is an important place for many of the people we support: a venue for 1:1 consultations with health and wellbeing practitioners, a wonderful space for groups and classes, an accessible gym and a social hub for people to meet and chat with each other.

Your support is making it possible for us to continue to provide support for people, but we’re having to do this differently. Already, we’ve been making contact by phone. And now, we’re devising new ways of reaching out to those who are desperate to put their lives back on track and finding it even more difficult because of the need to reduce – or even do without – normal social contact. Our practitioners are doing everything they can to keep support in place for people who may be even more vulnerable at this time.

Our funding
Our wonderful face-to-face team is no longer able to fundraise out and about in the community. As a result, our income is reduced and it’s very hard for us to attract and sign-up new supporters.

Additionally, at least one of our funders has announced that it is delaying its decisions about grants until later in the year and this too will impact on our finances. So if at this time you are able – and would like – to make a donation, it would be very much appreciated. You can do so here.

Your donations
Although the Centre of Wellbeing is closed to the public, our employees continue to work to make sure that we keep our organisation running smoothly. If you would like to talk to us about your donations, or anything detailed in this letter, please email or just give me a call on 07525 100 566.

Support for everyone
We’re not going anywhere! We remain totally committed to providing health and wellbeing support for as many people as we can – and we can do this thanks to your on-going support.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be doing what we can to share practical advice and hints and tips on wellbeing to support people in our wider community who might need a little bit of Thistle to navigate the days and weeks ahead. These will be on our website and our Facebook page. We hope that you will find them helpful and share them with others.

In addition, we plan to send you emails over the coming weeks with updates on what is happening at Thistle.

We are wishing you all the best and sending our support in these difficult times.

Yours sincerely,

William Oviatt
Head of Fundraising
