Demand for Thistle's services is now so intense that we are having to ask people to wait for up to eight weeks before we can support them. We don't think this is right and hope that you will help by taking someone - like Malcolm - off our waiting list.
When I was 14, I had my first brain haemorrhage. When I was 18, I had my second. By the time I was 22, I felt alone, desperate and in need of urgent help. That's when I turned to Thistle.
I know what it feels like to wait . To wait for someone to reach out and offer help. To wait for life to begin again afer illness.
The first time I reached out to Thistle, I was a bit nervous, even reluctant, to ask for help. But straight away, I knew I’d come to the right place. On their Lifestyle Management Course, I started to become more physically confident. Thistle’s support gave me a new emotional confidence, too. I now volunteer with Thistle and I’m determined to help other people who are in a similar place I once was.
Asking Thistle for help took me a lot of time, and a lot of courage. I don’t know how I would have coped if - when I reached out for their support - they told me I’d have to wait for help.
