A national centre for wellbeing in the heart of Craigmillar
- Nicola Sturgeon, opening our Centre of Wellbeing on the 14th June 2016
The Centre of Wellbeing is an accessible, welcoming and friendly community space for people that are supported by Thistle, local residents and the wider community. It is also Thistle's office headquarters.
The building hosts a range of health and wellbeing activities: as well as 1:1 support and group-based Lifestyle courses, we have a fabulous, small, community gym on site; we hold classes such as Tai Chi and seated exercise; and we host a range of social and activity-based groups. The Centre also provides the organisation with training and conference facilities, which are available for external organisations to hire.
Thistle has a long history of providing pioneering support in the heart of the Craigmillar community. Set up by Sir Francis and Lady Tudsbery in the early 1940s, Thistle Foundation built the Thistle village – a pioneering venture that enabled disabled ex servicemen to get the medical support they needed while living at home with their families.
The Centre of Wellbeing would not have been possible without the support of our funders:
