Thistle CEO, Mark Hoolahan said, “Our volunteers give their time in a variety of different ways including supporting the team and people who come to our Centre of Wellbeing and through our peer support programme.
“Your dedication and commitment to supporting other people is truly inspiring. People are at the heart of why you volunteer and you are making a real difference within your local community. From everyone at Thistle, I’d like to say a BIG THANK YOU.”
Sandra Mackenzie, is a Lead Health and Wellbeing Practitioner at Thistle. Sandra works as part of the team that manages Thistle’s peer-led activity that complements our health and wellbeing courses.
Sandra adds, “The contribution that peer volunteers offer to the Thistle health and wellbeing courses is integral. Peers can inspire, support and encourage people who come to our courses as they have walked in their shoes, and I see on every course how much course participants value that peer contribution.”
At Thistle, we also offer wellbeing support to ex-service people. Claire Cumming is part of the health and wellbeing team providing this support, and knows how important the lived experience our volunteers bring to our lifestyle management courses is, “I really appreciate all that our peer volunteers contribute to the health and wellbeing team. Having some of our peer volunteers facilitate, alongside me, on our lifestyle management courses has been a great asset. Their lived experience of the course, and their own self-management journey, makes a huge difference to the people we support; in gaining their trust and belief in the difference the course can make.”
