Full marks from the Care Inspectorate

In June of this year our Supported Living services in Edinburgh and Renfrew had their annual inspection by the Care Inspectorate.

In each service we were delighted that a grade of 5/Very Good was awarded in all of the assessed areas:

Edinburgh

Renfrew

In both areas the reports make clear the high quality of the relationships that were witnessed by the inspectors between people we support and their staff teams.  Particular mention was also made of the quality of training provided to staff and of The Big Conversation - Thistle’s new forum for shared development of the future of Thistle by all people who have a stake in it.

Thistle have put a great deal of work over the last 18 months into increasing our level of capacity in the Service Leader role and it was great to see lots of positive feedback about the impact of the Service Leaders in ensuring we provide a great service.

Another huge focus has been overhauling our systems to ensure where we support people with medication and their money that these are at the forefront of best and transparent practice and it’s great to see the report recognise this commitment to continuous improvement.

There is always room for things to be better and the reports give us useful guidance, in particular on being clearer around areas such as where we work with people whose capacity to make decisions may be in question and how we can better resolve issues of emergency sickness cover – all of these are in our work plan going forward.

We would like to extend a very warm thanks to all the staff, especially the Personal Assistants, who have all worked so hard to build positive relationships with people we support to allow them to live lives of their choosing.

And a further warm thanks to all the people who have trusted Thistle to work with them to support them in their lives – we hope the positive messages in this report reflect your experience (and do let me know if not) and we look forward to working with you further.
