Thistle’s new Lifestyle Management Course for young people aged 16 to 25

From Wednesday 21st February, we will be running a 10-week Lifestyle Management Course for young people aged 16 to 25 with long-term health conditions and/or additional support needs. The course will take place from 5pm to 8pm at our Centre of Wellbeing in Edinburgh.

It follows a successful pilot in 2023, and aims to support young people to cope better, get control of the things they can and build the confidence to get on with their lives.

The course allows participants to explore and practice self-management strategies that encourage young people to live well by building on what’s already working, focusing on what’s strong as opposed to what’s wrong and building on strengths, gifts and community connections.

Our Lifestyle Management Course is made up of four parts:

  • A solution-focused check in where we ask what's been better in the past week

  • A series of relaxation exercises

  • A movement and mobility programme which moves from gentle stretches to a paced circuit

  • A self-management topic:
    Getting started
    Sleep
The effects of stress and benefits of relaxation
    Pacing and energy management
    Getting active and motivated
    Pacing and prioritising what's important
    Effective communication
    Mind body connection
Preventing. Minimising and recovering from relapse
    Reflection and forward planning

If you have any questions or would like to speak to someone about the course, please get in touch at Thistleyp@thistle.org.uk or 07765235828.
